Yunchan Lim (任奫燦, born March 20, 2004) is a South Korean pianist. She won the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2022 at the age of 18, the youngest ever. He was born in Siheung-si, Gyeonggi-do. He started learning the piano for the first time in 2011 at the age of 7 at the recommendation of his mother at the local shopping center piano academy. He recalls that at the time, he only attended the piano academy without attending any other academy, so he naturally fell in love with music.He was 9 years old in 2013, he saw an advertisement for the Arts Center's Music Academy and applied for it and was accepted. In 2015, he made his debut at the Kumho Youngjae Concert hosted by the Kumho Asiana Cultural Foundation. He went to Yewon School to learn music, and in 2017, he started studying with Minsoo Son at the Korea National University of Arts Gifted Learning Center. In 2018, she won 2nd prize at the Cleveland Youth Competition, USA, and after graduating from Yewon School, she went directly to the Korea National University of Arts Conservatory of Music in 2020. In 2019, she won the Yun Sang International Competition at the age of 15.2022 At the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2006, he won the final prize for the Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 3 and the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 3, as well as the Audience Award. In an interview with foreign media after winning the championship, he said that he had no career ambitions, and that he originally wanted to go into the mountains and live with the piano, but he couldn't live like that, so he was stepping on his career. He also revealed that before he became an adult, he took part in this competition to see how mature he was musically. He also revealed that "a really great teacher" Professor Min-soo Son and his close friends had a great influence in shaping his musical identity in his life up to this time.
