The First War of Scottish Independence was a war that lasted from the English invasion of Scotland in 1296 to the formal guarantee of Scottish independence in the Treaty of Edinburgh-Northampton in 1328. The content of the war was the Scottish resistance to England's attempt to incorporate Scotland into its own power. Substantial independence had already been won in 1314 when the Scots won the Battle of Bannockburn.
