Andrej Babiš (Bratislava, September 2, 1954) is a Czech politician and entrepreneur of Slovak descent who has been Prime Minister of the country since December 6, 2017. Since October 2013, Babiš has been a member of the Czech Chamber of Deputies. Between 2014 and 2017, Babiš was First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance in the Sobotka cabinet. He is also the founder of the company Agrofert.
Babiš is an alleged ex-StB agent, the evidence for this is not watertight and therefore he is allowed to function as a politician. However, his predecessor Bohuslav Sobotka never asked for a lustration certificate. Babiš has never wanted to comment on this. On November 16, 2019, some 200,000 to 250,000 Czechs demonstrated against the conduct of Prime Minister Babis, mainly accusing him of combining his political director role with leading his business group Agrofert. For example, this conglomerate of agricultural and food companies has received around EUR 120 million in EU subsidies over the past two years. when 40 tons of dead fish were collected due to poisoning.
