The Gasthuistunnel is a tunnel in the Belgian city of Antwerp, located under the Leien at the National Bank. The Gasthuistunnel starts at the Lange Gasthuisstraat, runs under the Sint-Jorispoort, Bourlastraat and the Leien and ends up on the N184 (Van Eycklei). Traffic can only pass through the tunnel in this direction. The name was derived from the Lange Gasthuisstraat and from the nearby Sint-Elizabeth hospital. The Gasthuistunnel forms a complex with the Blauwtorentunnel, the Van Eycktunnel and the underground car park 'Nationale Bank'. The tunnels were opened to traffic on January 14, 2008. The maximum height is 2.80 m, which means that trucks are not allowed, and the maximum speed is 30 km/h. The length of this tunnel is 565 m. The lighting in this tunnel is orange. This way, in the event of a breakdown or accident, the emergency services can quickly be directed to the correct tunnel.
