Titanic is a 1997 film by film director James Cameron, produced by 20th Century Fox (global distributor), Paramount Pictures (US distributor), and Spyglass Entertainment (production only). The film is about the two lovers Rose DeWitt Bukater and Jack Dawson, who meet during the fatal crossing of the RMS Titanic in 1912. The film was a huge success with both critics and at the box office, winning 11 Oscars, including Best Picture. Titanic is currently, after Avatar and Avengers: Endgame, the film that has earned the most in dollars, if inflation is not taken into account. While the main characters are fictional, many other elements in the film are not made up. The ship is a true imitation and many of the other characters and events are also based on reality.

Story

In 1996, Brock Lovett's expedition is in search of 'The Heart of the Ocean', a precious diamond that originally belonged to the French King Louis XVI. Rumor has it that this diamond disappeared into the sea 84 years earlier along with the Titanic. With two submarines they go to the wreck that lies at a depth of 3810 meters. They find a safe and expect that the diamond is still there, but instead they find a drawing of a naked woman wearing a necklace with the diamond on it. When CNN shows images of the drawing, an elderly woman named Rose Calvert calls. She says she is the woman in the drawing. The expedition members hope to find out through Rose where the diamond is now. Together with her granddaughter Lizzy, Rose goes to the Keldish, the ship on which the expedition takes place. Rose then recounts her experiences as a passenger on the Titanic. Her name was Rose DeWitt Bukater at the time. Together with her mother Ruth DeWitt Bukater and her fiancé Caledon Hockley, the son of a Pittsburgh steel magnate, she sailed the Titanic to the United States on April 10, 1912, at the age of 17. Rose's planned marriage to Hockley is then arranged: The DeWitt Bukaters are a distinguished but impoverished family, hoping to become richer this way. Rose dreads having to lead a life entirely determined by others: first by her mother and soon by a man she actually hates. She would much rather develop herself and start a career, for example as a dancer or actress. Poor young artist Jack Dawson and his friend Fabrizio De Rossi have come on board after winning the tickets at a game of poker. Rose and Jack meet when Rose is desperate to commit suicide by jumping into the sea from the stern of the ship. Jack manages to prevent this at the last minute. When Rose later tells her mother and Hockley that Jack saved her life, Jack is welcome at the Bukaters' dinner, but because of his origins he is not warmly welcomed. Because of her introduction to Jack, Rose suddenly becomes a completely different person: instead of doing everything neatly, she thinks for herself that she can also have fun. As the crush blossoms, Jack makes a nude drawing of her wearing "The Heart of the Ocean" at Rose's request. Rose then decides to leave her fiancé Hockley for Jack. Hockley begins to suspect this and sends his valet Lovejoy to find Rose. The two manage to get rid of the bodyguard by hiding in a car, and have sex with each other there. That same night, the Titanic collides with an iceberg. An inspection shows that the ship is doomed to sink, because five compartments make water while four is the maximum. Rose and Jack catch this and want to warn the rest about this. On their return, Lovejoy puts the diamond in Jack's jacket pocket, after which Jack's pockets are searched and
