1886 - The Chicago Haymarket riots. 1919 - 3,000 Chinese students in Beijing protest against Japanese aggression. The May 4 movement against foreigners in China and the Fourth May Square in Qingdao are named after the action. 1945 - World War II: Partial German capitulation (in Denmark, the Netherlands and northern Germany) 1970 - The shooting at Kent State University, four students were shot, and nine injured at Kent State University in Ohio 1982 - Falklands War: Argentine Dassault Super Etendards aircraft attack and sink the British ship HMS "Sheffield", which was hit by a midship and sank.

Norsk historie

1936 - The national team for Norwegian Agricultural Clubs, later Norwegian 4H is founded. 1936 - A seaplane route between Bergen and Oslo is opened 1942 - The Thamshavn railway's transformer station at Bårdshaug is blown up - the first sabotage operation on Norwegian soil approved by the Norwegian government in exile in London. 1945 - The German hotel ship MS "Black Watch" is sunk in Kilbotn south of Harstad. 1979 - Metronom 66 won the first Norwegian brass band championship. 1985 - On Saturday 4 May 1985, Bobbysocks wins, with La det swinge, the international final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Gothenburg. 1991 - Sjarken «Trond Kåre» sinks in Sogn og Fjordane. Two perish. 2022 - The Stavsjøfjell tunnel on the E6 in Malvik was closed after a landslide. One person was rescued from a car that was taken by the landslide.
