Benjamin List (born 11 January 1968) is a German chemist. In 2021, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry along with David W.C. MacMillan. He was awarded the prize for the development of asymmetric organocatalysis. List was born in Frankfurt in 1968. He studied at the Freie Universität Berlin and received his doctorate in 1997 from the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität in Frankfurt am Main. He started his career at Schripp's research institute, and from 2003 he worked at the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung, where he became a professor in 2005 and was head from 2012 to 2014.
