David W.C. MacMillan (born 16 March 1968) is a British-American chemist. In 2021, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry together with Benjamin List. He received the Nobel Prize for the development of asymmetric organocatalysis. MacMillan was born in Bellshill, Scotland, and studied at the University of Glasgow. He received his doctorate from the University of California, Irvine, and worked as a postdoctoral fellow for Professor Dave Evans at Harvard University from 1996, at the University of California, Berkeley from 1998 and from June 2000 at the California Institute of Technology. In 2006, he became a professor at Princeton University. MacMillan is an advisor to several pharmaceutical companies, including Pfizer, Merck and Johnson & Johnson.
