David Maria Sassoli (born May 30, 1956 in Florence, died January 11, 2022 in Aviano) - Italian journalist, TV presenter and politician, Member of the European Parliament of the 7th, 8th and 9th term, president of the European Parliament of the 9th term (2019-2022) .

Curriculum vitae

Graduate of Political Science at the University of Florence. In the mid-1980s, he took up professional journalism (in 1986 he obtained the appropriate professional qualifications). Initially associated with the magazine "Il Giorno". In 1992 he was employed by the RAI television concern. He started working in the editorial office of the TG3 news program, as well as running his own journalistic programs. He then joined Rai 2. In the late 1990s he moved to Rai 1 where he soon took over the lead edition of the TG1 daily. In 2009, he became the leader of one of the regional lists of the Democratic Party in the elections to the European Parliament, winning the election of an MEP. In 2014 and 2019, he successfully ran for re-election in the European Parliament. On July 3, 2019, he was elected President of the European Parliament for the 9th term. He was elected in the second round of voting, receiving 345 votes. He died while in office on January 11, 2022 at the Aviano Cancer Center.
