Joseph Antoine Plateau (born October 14, 1801, died September 15, 1883) - Belgian physicist. Author of works mainly on the theory of color and the theory of vision.

Curriculum vitae

In the years 1828-1832 he discovered and described the strobe phenomenon. In 1832, he built the first strobe. He was the first to conduct the Plateau experiment (named after him) in 1843, in which he experimentally determined the influence of surface tension forces on the shape of the surface of liquid films and determined the rules of stable systems in foam. Plateau was invented (independently of Simon Stampfer) in 1833 by the fennelist.
