Index - the main website on the server is loaded if the user has not provided the URI address for a specific resource. Index is also used to describe the main page of a website. Home pages can have any file name extension index, as it is not read by web browsers. The web server configuration determines the extension with which the index file will be interpreted as the home page. The most common index files are: index.html, index.htm, index.xhtml, index.xht - page built in HTML or XHTML index.php, index.php3, index.php4, index.php5, index.phtml - page containing PHP code index.asp - the page containing the ASP code index.shtml - page containing SSI inserts
