Tchernivtsi or Čėrnivcy (Ukrainian: Чернівці) is a region (oblast) of Ukraine, its capital being the city of Tchernivtsi. This region was called Northern Bukovina and was part of Austria (Czernowitz) until 1918 and Romania (Cernăuţi) between 1918 and 1940 and between 1941 and 1944. It was annexed to Ukraine on August 7, 1940. It has international borders with the Romania and Moldova, as well as nationals with the Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Khmelnytsky and Vinnytsia oblasts.
