Ronnie Walter Cunningham (Creston, March 16, 1932) is a former American astronaut. Cunningham joined the United States Navy in 1951 and was a pilot in the United States Marine Corps from 1953 to 1956, joining the NASA team in 1963, when he was selected for Group 3 astronauts. He made his only space flight on October 11, 1968, as a pilot for the Apollo 7 mission, the first manned mission of the Apollo lunar program, spending eleven days in Earth orbit, testing the Apollo spacecraft that would go to the Moon. in 1971, he graduated from the management program at Harvard University and went on to work as a businessman and executive in various branches of the private sector.
