The founding principles of Wikipedia, called pillars, set the main features that define the encyclopedia and the conditions for its elaboration. They are the foundation of all the rules and recommendations that frame the making of Wikipedia. They evolved from the founding principles laid down by Jimmy Wales and should only be changed for exceptional reasons. They must be followed by all editors under all circumstances. There are five pillars: encyclopedism, neutrality of point of view, free license, community coexistence and liberality in the rules.
