Evgeny Aleksandrovich Krutov (born March 23, 1978, Ivanovo, Ivanovo Region, RSFSR, USSR) is a Russian test pilot, Hero of the Russian Federation (2021).

Biography

Evgeny Aleksandrovich Krutov was born on March 23, 1978 in Ivanovo, in his father's homeland. Father - test pilot Alexander Krutov, served at that time in Georgia, and sent his wife to give birth to his mother, an obstetrician. Since 1980 he lived in Zhukovsky, in the Moscow region. In 1996 he graduated from the Yeysk boarding school with initial flight training in the Krasnodar Territory, after he entered the military service in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, he began to study at the Kachinsky Higher Military Aviation School named after A.F. Myasnikov in Volgograd. In 1998 he was transferred to the Armavir Higher Military Aviation School named after P. S. Kutakhov, from which he graduated in 2001. Later he served as an instructor pilot in the training aviation regiment of the Krasnodar Higher Aviation Military Institute, and in 2003 he retired with the rank of senior lieutenant. In 2003, he started working as a test pilot at the M. M. Gromov Flight Research Institute, in parallel graduating in 2005 from the A. V. Fedotov Test Pilot School. While working at the institute, he carried out a number of complex tests of various aircraft. He mastered more than 15 types of aircraft, the total flight time is more than a thousand hours. He has the qualification of a test pilot of the 1st class. On October 5, 2018, Krutov, in place of the commander, together with M. V. Kondratenko, as an instructor, took part in pre-flight tests of the MiG-29LL laboratory aircraft (tail number 84) in Zhukovsky. Taking off at 10 hours 38 minutes, after about six minutes the plane reached a height of 10 thousand, after which Krutov began to fulfill the assigned task, becoming to perform aerobatic maneuvers. In the process of taking the aircraft out of the loop, a blow was heard in the rear of the fuselage, after which a fire started in the left engine, which then spread to the right one. Without attempting to eject, the pilots took the plane out of the clouds, seeing the residential high-rise buildings of Voskresensk.
