New College (English New College, full name English St Mary's College of Winchester in Oxford), also New College - one of the colleges of Oxford University. Founded by William of Wyckham with the permission of King Richard II in 1379 for the training of priests. Three years later Winchester College was founded as a preparatory college. The name New College has been in use since 1386 to distinguish it from another college dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Until 1979, he accepted only male students for training. In 2017, the college ranked first on the Norrington Chart, which measures the relative performance of Oxford students in their final exams.
