Etymology

The name of the country comes from the Old Norse Norreweg - "northern route", which originally referred to the coastal sea route through which the Normans went to the northern seas. Subsequently, this name began to designate the western coast of the Scandinavian Peninsula along the sea route, and then the state that arose here.
