Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee
Отдел пропаганды Центрального комитета Коммунистической партии Китая (кит. трад. 中國共產黨中央委員會宣傳部, упр. 中国共产党中央委员会宣传部, пиньинь Zhōngguó Gòngchǎndǎng Zhōngyāng Wěiyuánhuì Xuānchuánbù; сокр. кит. упр. 中共中央宣传部, пиньинь Zhōnggòng Zhōngyāng Xuānchuánbù ) is a subdivision of the Communist Party of China. It is considered one of the most authoritative party organizations. Responsible for media control and censorship.
In 1921, following the results of the 1st CPC Congress, the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee was established. In May 1924, the establishment of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee was officially announced. During the Cultural Revolution, the propaganda department was abolished. In October 1977, after the 11th CPC Congress, the propaganda department was restored.
The most important function of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee is to control ideology, press and television, and educational policy. The Propaganda Department exercises control over the media, a network of institutions and bodies (including the structures of the State Council of the PRC, provincial and municipal governments) in charge of culture, press, publishing, television and cinema, and radio.
