The Russian Empire (Russian pre-reph. Russian Empire; also the All-Russian Empire) is a state that existed from October 22 (November 2), 1721 until the February Revolution and the proclamation of the republic in September 1917 by the Provisional Government. As the largest state in Eurasia, it was located in Eastern and Northern Europe, North and Central Asia, and until 1867 in North America. The empire was proclaimed on October 22 (November 2), 1721 at the end of the Northern War, when, at the request of senators, Peter I accepted the titles of Emperor of All Russia and Father of the Fatherland. After the February Revolution of 1917, Emperor Nicholas II abdicated the throne. Immediately after this, the Provisional Government was created, which proclaimed the country a republic on September 1 (14), 1917 (although this issue was within the competence of the Constituent Assembly, which also declared Russia a republic on January 5 (18), 1918). As a result of the October Revolution, the Bolsheviks seized power, which led to a civil war. In 1918, the imperial family was executed, and in 1922 the Soviet Union was founded. The Romanov dynasty ruled the Russian Empire from 1721 to 1762. Its matrilineal branch of German origin by
