FINA World Championships 2022
The 2022 World Aquatics Championships (also Aquatika-2022) is the 19th championship under the auspices of the International Swimming Federation (FINA), which takes place in Budapest (Hungary) from June 17 to July 3, 2022. For the first time since 2001, the pause between world championships was three years.
Choice of venue
Initially, the competition was scheduled for the summer of 2021 in Fukuoka (Japan). However, they were postponed to May 2022 due to the combination with the Olympic Games postponed from 2020. In January 2022, they were postponed to 2023 due to COVID-19.
On February 7, 2022, FINA announced that the 2022 World Championships will be held in Budapest (Hungary), which has already hosted the 2017 World Championships.
On March 23, 2022, FINA announced the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials from participating in the championship.
