The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (French: 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, French: Coupe d'Afrique des Nations 2021; also known as Afkon 2021) is the 33rd edition of the African Cup of Nations, an international football tournament organized by the African Football Confederation (CAF). in which African national teams compete. The host of the tournament is Cameroon and it will be held from January 9 to February 6, 2022. It was originally planned to hold the championship in the summer of 2021. However, due to unfavorable climatic conditions in that period, KAF announced that the tournament was postponed to January and February of the same year. Later, KAF moved the date of the tournament for the second time; it was decided that the championship will be held at the beginning of 2022 due to the consequences of the kovid 19 pandemic in the entire continent. Due to sponsorship reasons, the name African Cup of Nations 2021 remained in use. The title of champion was defended by the national team of Algeria, which in 2019 became the champion of Africa for the second time.

Qualified national teams

The following national teams qualified for the championship.

Competition system

A total of twenty-four national teams are participating in the championship. Only the host is guaranteed a place in the final tournament - the other twenty-three teams compete through qualifications to secure a place. After it is known which national teams will participate, they are divided into six groups of four teams. The winning teams from the eighth finals advance to the quarterfinals, and the winners from the quarterfinals advance to the semifinals. The defeated semifinalists play an honorary match for third place while the more successful semifinalists compete in the final for the title.

Ball

On November 23, 2021, KAF announced the official ball, called Togo, which will be used in the championship. The manufacturer is the English company Umbro.

Mascot

The mascot, called Mola, was unveiled on May 17, 2021, during a ceremony in Yaounde. The mascot is a lion wearing the home jersey of the Cameroonian national team, and the words "Cameroon" and "2021" are written on the top and bottom of the jersey.
