Ayman al-Zawahiri (Arabic: ايمن محمد ربيع الذواهري; June 19, 1951 – July 31, 2022) was the leader of Al Qaeda and a former member and senior official of Islamist organizations that carried out attacks in North America, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. In 2012, he called on Muslims to kidnap tourists for the West in Muslim countries. Since the attacks on the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001, the US State Department has offered $25 million for information leading to the capture of El Zawahiri. He is under the sanctions of Committee 1267 of the UN Security Council due to his connection to Al Qaeda.
