Burt Lancaster (New York, November 2, 1913 - Los Angeles, October 20, 1994) was an American film actor. He was born in New York in a Protestant family. He was one of five children. During World War II, he joined the US Army. He married three times and had five children. The first marriage lasted from 1935 to 1946, the second from 1946 to 1969. His third marriage was to Susan Martin in 1991. He died on October 20, 1994 from a heart attack. He won the Oscar for the year 1960 for the best male role in the film Elmer Gantry. His son Bill Lancaster was an actor and screenwriter known for the film The Creature directed by John Carpenter. After his death, Lancaster was cremated.
