Bogdan Subotic (Turjak near Gradiska, April 25, 1941 - Banja Luka, January 7, 2022) was a major general of the Army of the Republika Srpska and the first Minister of Defense of the Republika Srpska.
He was born on April 25, 1941 in Subotići, a hamlet in the village of Turjak, municipality of Gradiška. His parents Dragomir and Bosa had seven children, one of whom died shortly after birth. The oldest Jovan was born in 1934, followed by Radiva (1936), Vojislav (1938), Bogdan (1941) and Mira (1943). A few months after Bogdan's birth, his father Dragomir and uncle Mladen joined the uprising in Kozara. Uncle Mladen died in the partisans, and father Dragomir survived and left the war with the rank of colonel. In the first post-war colonization, the family moved to Krajisnik near Nova Topola in 1946. Here, in 1949, Dragomir and Rosa had their youngest, seventh child, a son whom they named Mladen after Dragomir's dead brother. Bogdan's brother Radomir was also an officer in the JNA and had the rank of colonel.
He was a Serb by nationality. He was married and had two children. He served in the Banja Luka garrison. He took part in the war from July 15, 1991 to May 1, 1992; from 1 May 1992 to 31 January 1996 in the Army of the Republika Srpska and the Ministry of Defense of the Republika Srpska. During his service in the VRS, he served as Minister of Defense of the Republika Srpska (1992-1993), Chief Inspector of the VRS (1993-1994) and Security Adviser to President Radovan Karadzic, and Head of the Republika Srpska Order Office (1994-1995). He was the head of the state commission "Border 94" for investigating "illegal trade, aiding the enemy, undermining the military and defense power of RS". He retired on January 31, 1996. He died on January 7, 2022 and was buried on January 9, 2022 in the cemetery. in Nova Topola.
