The Boston Celtics are an American basketball club based in Boston, Massachusetts. They play in the NBA League (Atlantic Division). The Celtics were founded in Boston in 1946 and initially competed in the Basketball Association of America (BAA), and have competed in the NBA since its founding in 1949. Led by coach Red Auerback, the Celtics won their first title in 1957 and in 1959 until 1966, they tied for eight consecutive titles, followed by 1968, 1969, 1974 and 1976. With Larry Byrd, the new star, and new rivals to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Celtics won the 1981, 1984 and 1986 championships. played in two more finals. The club won its last title in 2008. The Celtics occupy the first place in the number of titles won in the NBA league (17), together with the great rivals Lakers.
