AFI Lifetime Achievement Award

The AFI Life Achievement Award is a recognition given by the American Film Institute since February 26, 1973 to individuals whose work has contributed to the 'enrichment of American culture through film and television'. The recipient is selected and honored at a ceremony each year, with the award presented by the Master of Ceremonies and more recently, the previous year's recipient, who usually provides a brief synopsis of the awardee's individual and career background, including highlights and achievements.
