1301 - The reign of Arpad over Hungary ends with the death of Andrew III. 1504 - Pope Leo X issued a papal bull against slavery. Spain annexed Cuba. 1761 - A third battle of Panipat is fought in India between Afghans under Ahmad Shah Durran and Marat. 1784 - A peace treaty with Britain is ratified by the United States, formally ending the American War of Independence. 1809 - Britain and Spain make an alliance against the French Emperor Napoleon I. 1814 - King Frederick VI of Denmark cedes Norway to Sweden under the Treaty of Kiel in exchange for the return of Pomerania. 1826 - Matica Srpska is founded in Pest on the initiative of Jovan Hadzic (Milos Svetic) and rich Serbian merchants from Pest and Buda, Gavril Bozitovac, Jovan Demetrovic, Josif Milovuk, Petar Rajic, Andrija Rozmirovic and George Stankovic.
