1945 was a free year.



January 1 - The People's Liberation Army of Yugoslavia (NOVJ) is officially renamed the Yugoslav Army (JA), and the Supreme Headquarters is the General Staff. January 17 - Soviet troops and Polish forces liberate Warsaw in World War II. January 19 - The Red Army liberates the Lodz Ghetto. January 20 - Germany begins evacuating at least 1.8 million people in East Prussia. January 23 - German Grand Admiral Karl Denitz orders the start of Operation Hannibal, which became one of the largest evacuations by sea in history, with more than a million people transferred in 15 weeks. January 27 - Allied troops liberate Auschwitz.

March 4 - The Red Star sports association is founded. March 5 - US troops enter Cologne during World War II. March 7 - Suppressing Japanese forces in World War II, the British 14th Army enters Mandalay, Burma's second largest city. US troops captured the strategically important Ludendorff Bridge over the Rhine during the Battle of Remagen in World War II, which enabled them to establish and expand a bridgehead on German soil. March 14 - British Air Force on the railway viaduct in the United States
