January 1 - Attacks in Istanbul kill 39 people. January 4 - Former Hague indictee and president of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, is arrested in France on a warrant issued by Serbia, his family confirmed to the Pristina media. January 14 - The train that left Belgrade for Kosovska Mitrovica in the morning was stopped in the afternoon in Raska, at the last station before the administrative line with Kosovo. After threats from the Kosovo side of the administrative line that the railway would be mined and information that the train driver and passengers would be arrested, it was decided to return the train from the station in Raska to Belgrade. January 17 - The State Department confirms that the United States has imposed sanctions on the President of the Republic of Srpska, Milorad Dodik. January 27 - US President Donald Trump signs an executive order restricting travel and immigration to the United States from seven predominantly Muslim countries, which led to protests and court rulings ordering its partial suspension.
