1014 - Brian Bohr defeats the Lenster-Viking army at the Battle of Clontarf, but is killed in battle. 1660 - With the Treaty of Oliva, Poland cedes Livonia to Sweden with the city of Riga. 1728 - A fire destroys much of Copenhagen. 1815 - The Second Serbian Uprising is raised under the leadership of Prince Miloš Obrenović. 1913 - Turks surrender Shkodra to Montenegrins in the First Balkan War. By the decision of the great powers on May 14, the Montenegrins withdrew, and Shkodra belonged to Albania. 1938 - Sudeten Germans seek, with Hitler's support, full autonomy within Czechoslovakia. With the Munich Agreement in September of the same year, Hitler annexed the Sudetenland to Germany, and in 1939 occupied Czechoslovakia. 1941 - A Greek army surrenders to Nazi German troops and the king and government leave the country. 1945 - Soviet troops liberate Nazi camps "Sachsenhausen" and "Ravensbrück" in World War II. 1975 - The last South Vietnamese government resigns, and US President Gerald Ford admits defeat in the Vietnam War. 1990 - Chinese Prime Minister Li Peng arrives in Moscow. It was the first visit by a Chinese prime minister to the Soviet Union in 26 years. 1997 - Presidents of Russia and China Boris Yeltsin and Zhang Zemin sign a declaration opposing the dominance of a superpower in the post-Cold War era. 1998 - In Serbia, 73.05% of voters went to the referendum on foreign mediation in solving the problems in Kosovo and Metohija, and 94.73% voted against the participation of foreign representatives. 1999 - A state television building is hit on the 30th day of NATO airstrikes on Yugoslavia. 16 were killed and 18 were injured. Several repeaters of the Serbian Radio and Television were also destroyed. 2003 - The World Bank has approved a $ 80m loan to support social sector reforms in Serbia. The first direct negotiations between the United States and North Korea were held in Beijing, after North Korea admitted that it had secretly worked on the improvement of nuclear weapons and thus violated international obligations. 2009 - A gamma-ray burst of GRB 090423 from the farthest known astronomical object is detected.
