Ove Staffan Sommelius, born October 23, 1944, died November 21, 2021, was a Swedish painter, illustrator and journalist. He was the son of the editors - in - chief Ove Sommelius and Vera Ebba Leonie von Porath and from 1966 married to Lena Margareta Berg. He was the brother of Sören Sommelius. Sommelius studied art at Robert Askou-Jensen's School of Drawing and Painting at the Glyptoteket in Copenhagen 1965–1966 and through self-study during trips to Germany, the Netherlands, France and Greece, among others, 1963–1966. Together with Herbert C Banck, he exhibited at Galleri HS in Lund in 1965 and separately he exhibited at Galleri Gränden in Helsingborg. He participated in group exhibitions arranged by Helsingborgs konstförening. As an illustrator, he appeared in Helsingborgs Dagblad until 2008, when a stroke prevented him from continuing to work. Sommelius is represented at Helsingborgs museum. He was CEO of Helsingborgs Dagblad 1977–1985. Sommelius died on the night between 20 and 21 November 2021 after a short illness. He had then for many years been wheelchair bound in the suites after the stroke in 2008, which paralyzed his right side and affected his ability to speak.
