Administrative center - a settlement that has a legally established function of the center of administrative management in relation to other settlements located on the territory of the relevant administrative-territorial unit (country, region, district). The functions of the settlement as an administrative center largely determine the social structure and nature of employment of its population. Administrative center - a settlement in which are the relevant state authorities and management of a particular administrative-territorial unit: region, district, etc. In Ukraine, since 1932, a three-tier system of administrative-territorial organization was introduced: center - region - district. Usually the administrative center is the largest in terms of population, industrially and socially developed, it plays a key role in the economic and social life of the respective administrative-territorial unit. Recognition of a settlement (city, town) as an administrative center is enshrined in law. Some cities may be the administrative centers of several administrative-territorial units, such as Kyiv, which is the capital of Ukraine, as well as the administrative center of the Kyiv region.
