Declaration of Independence of Israel (Hebrew: akרזת העצמאות - Hakhrazat HaAtzma'ut or Hebrew: מגילת העצמאות - Megilat HaAtzma'ut) - Declaration signed on May 14, 1948 (January 5, 5708, according to the Jewish calendar) , which officially announced the creation of a new Jewish state - the State of Israel - on the territory of the British Mandate in Palestine, where in ancient times the kingdoms of Israel and Judah and the Roman province of Judah existed. The day of signing the declaration is now celebrated as the national holiday of Israel - the Independence Day of the State of Israel (Hebrew: יום העצמאות).
