| Lib James Augustine Aloysius Joyce (February 2, 1882 - January 13, 1941) was considered an Irish writer and considered one of the most influential writers of the twentieth century. He gained general recognition primarily through his monumental novel Ulysses (1922). He is also the author of books such as Dublin's collection of short stories (1914), Giacomo Joyce's psychological and autobiographical essay (1914), the semi-autobiographical novel Portrait of a Young Artist (1916), and his most enigmatic and multifaceted work. - "Funeral for Finnegan" (1939). Although Joyce has spent most of his adult life outside his homeland, his work is imbued with the theme of Ireland: all events take place in Ireland and most of the stories are related to it. Dublin, 1882—1904

James Augustine Aloysius Joyce was born on February 2, 1882, in the Dublin suburb of Ratgar to a Catholic family. He was the eldest of 10 surviving children; two of his siblings died of typhus. His father's family came from the town of Fermoy in Cork County. In 1887, his father, John Stanislaus Joyce, was appointed tax inspector in Dublin, and the family moved to the prestigious town of Bray, 12 miles (19 km) from Dublin. Around this time, little James was attacked by a dog, which led to a dog phobia, which he suffered all his life. He also suffered from fear of thunder, which his aunt interpreted as a sign of God's wrath. In 1891, Joyce wrote the poem "Et Tu Healy" on the death of Stuart Charles Parnell, the political leader of Ireland. Elder Joyce published a poem and even sent a copy to the Vatican Library. In November of that year, John Joyce was declared bankrupt and dismissed. In 1893 he was granted a pension.
