The mass killing of prisoners in Olenivka is a terrorist act organized by the Russian occupation forces in the village of Molodizhny of the Olenivka settlement council against Ukrainian prisoners of war - defenders of "Azovstal" in Mariupol. 53 prisoners died and more than 130 were injured from the explosions on the territory of the former Volnova correctional colony No. 120, where Ukrainian defenders were held. Since August 2014, the institution has been under temporary occupation and is not working. Since February 24, 2022, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation have created a filtration prison on its base.

Previous Events

On May 16, 2022, after the fall of the last bastion of defense of the Ukrainian troops in Mariupol — the Azovstal plant — 211 of its defenders who surrendered to the Russian occupiers were taken to this prison. On July 28, 2022, according to the Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, an explosion occurred on the territory of the Volnova correctional colony No. 120. On the morning of July 29, the Russian propaganda site "RIA Novosti" reported that 53 Ukrainian prisoners of war held at the facility died during shelling of the colony. "Ukrainian Pravda" noted that a few days before the attack, the soldiers of the "Azov" regiment were transferred to the very barracks that were at the epicenter of the explosions, and the scouts themselves recorded artillery strikes in the direction of the village. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on the Russian shelling in the area of ​​the colony in Olenivka, as well as the fact that by destroying Ukrainian fighters, the Russians probably intended to accuse Ukraine of a crime and to hide the torture of prisoners of war. In turn, according to the representative of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the pre-trial detention center was hit by the American M142 HIMARS system and some debris was even shown.
