The apparition of the Blessed Virgin in Fatima is a series of apparitions that took place in Fatima in 1915–1917. The most famous is the apparition of the Virgin Mary in 1917. From May 13 to October 13, she appeared six times to three shepherdesses: Lucia dos Santos, Jacinta Martha and Francis Martha. In 1930, the Catholic Church officially recognized these events as a miracle and revelation that did not contradict the doctrine. "Little Shepherdesses"

Francisco Marto

Francisco Marto was born on June 11, 1908, in the village of Aljustrel of the Fatima Fregesia. Father - Manuel Pedro Marto († 3.02.1957). His mother was Olímpia de Jesus dos Santos (d. April 3, 1956). He was baptized on June 20, 1908. He was one of three witnesses to the apparition of the Angel of Peace (1916) and the Virgin Mary (1917). In October 1918, Francisco fell ill with "Spanish". At that time, everyone in Marto's family fell ill with the flu except his father. Francisco Marto died at home (at his parents' house in Aljustrel) on April 4, 1919. A report written by the parish priest of Fatima to the church states: "Francisco died on April 4 (Friday) at 10 pm as a victim of an illness that lasted five months and was caused by a so-called 'Spaniard'; He received Holy Communion in great purity of soul and piety. He claimed to have seen Our Lady of Our Lady in Cova da Iria and in Valingos. Priest Manuel M. Ferreira, April 18, 1919. " Francisco was buried in the local Fatima cemetery. In 1935, the remains of his sister Jacinta were reburied next to him. On April 30, 1951, the first attempt was made to move the remains of the children to the Basilica of the Virgin Mary of Fatima, but the remains of Francis could not be identified. The difficulty was that, as usual, other dead children were buried on top. On February 17, 1952, a second attempt was made to identify Francisco. One piece of evidence was a rosary wrapped around his arm. It is interesting that the rosary remained completely intact. On March 13, 1952, the remains were transferred to the crypt of the Basilica of the Virgin Mary of the Rosary of Fatima. Francisco Marto was beatified by Pope John Paul II on May 13, 2000.
