The Federal Chancellor of Austria (Bundeskanzler) is the head of government in Austria. He coordinates the work of the government and presents government policy to parliament and the public. Leading the ruling party, he is the political leader of the parliamentary faction. Alexander Schallenberg has been in office since October 11, 2021. Purpose The Federal Chancellor is appointed by the Federal President of Austria. At the same time, he takes into account the opinion of the majority of the lower house of parliament - the National Council. The National Council may vote no confidence in the federal government or individual federal ministers, but the final decision on the resignation of the government or ministers is made by the president.
